Vallenato music and folklore comes to Vancouver

Camilo & Channo Vallenato Group brought the joy and passion found in the Vallenato rhythm to Vancouver’s Ukranian Cultural Centre. Telling it’s story through the accordion, Vallenato is a musical genre that captures Colombian folklore and rhythms. This music was primarily performed by indigenous peoples and farmers from the northern coast of Colombia, and the language used to express emotions is influenced by the West Indies.

The Vallenato Festival is held every year in the city of Valledupar. The festival’s objective is to preserve folklore and to present to the world the best accordion interpreter, the king of the accordion.
