About this site

Welcome to the website for works produced by Kwantlen Polytechnic University students in JRNL2240 Beyond the News class. Each of the students has chosen an area of specialty coverage and will be producing pieces of journalism throughout the semester.

The young journalists are from a range of students, some in the upper levels of their Bachelor Journalism program, others just starting out. As well as exploring what it takes to work in a specialty area of journalism, they are also trying out a variety of means of storytelling, ranging from narrative text to multimedia.

(Details about our four-year Journalism & Communications Studies program are available here.)

A couple of notes about the site:

(1) Everything published here has been through an editing process, but efforts have been made to keep pieces as close to the original as possible. What you see here are the works of developing young journalists.

(2) For the moment, comments are open on all articles. As the ability of the audience to interact with journalists has become such a vital part of the evolving world of journalism, we’d like to keep it that way. We do expect, however, that comments and responses to them are written with a sense of respect. Comments will be moderated and we won’t approve comments that don’t meet basic standards of human decency.
