In 2008, Nike Basketball introduced its newest technology in the form of a basketball shoe: the Hyperdunk. This shoe was originally made exclusively for Los Angeles Lakers Guard Kobe Bryant, but eventually reached the consumer market. Players at all levels across the world, including this in the NBA, fell in love with the comfort, support and style of the new, evolutionary basketball shoe. The light weight of the shoe was also ground-breaking for how comfortable the shoe was. Nike, when a basketball shoe enters the market and is a success, releases a new version of the shoe annually, making upgrades to the performance of the shoe.

Three Kwantlen men’s basketball team members — Kyanith Thapa, Tristan Ordonez And Cory Pidhaichuk — are all wearing Nike Hyperdunks. Ordonez and Thapa are wearing Nike’s latest model, the 2015 Hyperdunk, and Pidhaichuk is wearing last years model, the 2014 Hyperdunk.

“I prefer the 2014 Hyperdunks that I had last year, I wore them so much that they are broken down by now,” Thapa said. “The 2015 Hyperdunks hurt my ankle whenever I play defense.”

Pidhaichuk hasn’t upgraded to the new 2015 Hyperdunks.

“I used to have the 2015 Hyperdunks, but they ripped,” he said. “I had to take them back to the Nike Store and I exchanged them for last year’s model. I was lucky that they still had the older ones in stock at the time.”

Ordonez is the only one that is fully satisfied with the latest Hyperdunks.

“I am really happy with the 2015 Hyperdunks,” he said. “They fit well to my foot and are very comfortable.”

Even though Nike has used its latest and greatest technology on the 2015 Hyperdunks, two of the three basketball players prefer the older model from 2015. Nike is already working on the 2016 Hyperdunks, which are expected to be released in spring of next year. Ordonez, Thapa, and Pidhaichuk are already looking forward to see what tune-ups and adjustments Nike has in store for the 2016 Hyperdunk.
