The official Diwali Day event was held Oct. 23 at the Orpheum Annex Theatre, with a cabaret performance called the Chai House.
On arriving, guests were served chai tea and naan and desserts such as cheese bites.
The evening started with traditional tabla player Amarjeet Singh and vocalist Gagandeep Singh, followed by dance performances that included an Indian professional dancer from the Leela Dance Group and, later, Flamenco dancers. T,
Also performing was Chris Murdoch, who worked his juggling skills into a musical act.
The host throughout the acts was explaining the meaning of Diwali to the audience.
This year’s Diwali Festival theme was unity in diversity. Diwali is also called the Festival of lights, because it is a time to be happy and loving. Key values stressed during the celebrations include generosity and compassion.
